You’ve found the perfect house. It’s in your budget, it’s located exactly where you want, it hits everything on your check list, and it failed the radon test. Wait – failed the radon test? If your desired home fails the radon test, you should find another house, right? WRONG! Radon can be mitigated and should NOT be the deciding factor on whether to purchase a home.

What is Radon?

Radon is a radioactive gas that cannot be detected unless you perform a radon test. It is odorless, colorless & tasteless. It gives a whole new meaning to silent but deadly. Radon exposure is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer, beat out only by smoking. In nonsmokers, it is the leading cause of lung cancer.

Radon Test: Safe Levels?

There is no such thing as a safe level of radon, so even if a home passes a radon test, it doesn’t mean that the levels of radon are safe. Instead, the EPA has determined an acceptable level of radon, and anything above that level is recommended for remediation.

What can be done about my radon levels?

No matter what your home’s radon test levels are, your home CAN be fixed. Whether your home is at the action point or below it, it is a good idea to install a radon mitigation system. These systems act as a remediation method by removing the radon from your home and redirecting it outside. Once outside, the levels of radon are diluted and do not pose the same health risk that concentrated levels within your home do because it is dissipated into the atmosphere. Radon mitigation systems become a permanent part of your home & work continuously to reduce your radon levels.

What about my home value?

Many people worry that having a failed radon test and a radon mitigation system installed will reduce the resale value of their home. In fact, the opposite can be true. As more awareness is being brought to radon, more and more home buyers are looking for homes that have a radon solution in place. Radon mitigation systems are viewed as an improvement to the home.

Tom H. – Aurora, IL

"The technicians at Trinity services were extremely professional. It was a pleasure to open up our home to them. My wife and I were extremely impressed with how neat and clean they worked. A lot of contractors just don't care, but I could tell that Trinity was not one of those contractors."

Bruce – Naperville, IL

"I met Josiah last week when he came out to 310 S Rosedale in Aurora to consult with my clients about the house they are buying. I was very impressed by both his knowledge and wiliness to answer questions. Far too many in the trades are not quite so customer centric. In any case, it is my pleasure to recommend your company to other agents and to my own clients in the future."
