The holidays can be a fun and exciting time. They can also harbor hidden dangers. Here at Trinity Electrical & Radon Mitigation, we just wanted to share a few friendly reminders to help keep your holiday safe for everyone.
Holiday Safety Tip #1:
Remember to inspect all electrical lights, decorations & extension cords for damage. You should do this twice – once when you are putting everything up, and again as you are putting everything away.
Holiday Safety Tip #2:
Do not try to overload your electrical outlets with too many decorations or power strips. Test your GFCIs to make sure they are protecting you.
Holiday Safety Tip #3:
Securely fasten all cords along walls, doorways & high traffic areas. Doing so will help to prevent any trips or falls.
Holiday Safety Tip #4:
You should regularly check your smoke detectors & carbon monoxide alarms throughout the year, but especially during the holidays. This helps to make sure everything is working properly, as well as helps keep everyone aware of what each alarm sounds like.
Holiday Safety Tip #5:
We’ve had a pretty mild winter this year, but it still gets cold. If you are using space heaters, be sure you have them at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn – this includes decorations, trees, gifts & curtains. Along those lines, be sure you are plugging these heaters into a properly rated outlet to avoid tripping any breakers.
Holiday Safety Tip #6:
Be sure to monitor small children around any decorations. Keep lights, breakable ornaments, hooks & other small decorations out of their reach.
Holiday Safety Tip #7:
Double check that all of your outside decorations have been safety tested to be outdoors. If a decoration is not rated to be outside, do not use it outside.
We wish you all a blessed Christmas & a Happy New Year. If you need help with making sure your home is safe for the holidays, give us a call at 630-499-1492.
